The Ultimate Guide to Meeting Women in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro is very touristic. One of the reasons is the good temperatures throughout the year. At its coldest, it’s still above 15 degree Celsius. Moreover, there is a lot of natural beauty with the mountains and the beaches so close together. But is it any good for seduction?

During Carnival, as well as tourist high season, it gets very raunchy. There are half naked girls parading during the daytime at the beaches, and also at night in the city streets. However, the off-season is a whole different matter altogether. Consequentially, when you weigh quality of women along with the seduction scene, it’s only an average place to game for about two-thirds of the year. When the tourists go home after high-season and carnival, a lot of the fun also leaves the city.

Rio’s Neighbourhoods

Ipanema is more upmarket and has sexier girls than Copacabana. However, it is a family neighborhood and not a party area. On the other hand, Copacabana is a much more affordable neighborhood to stay in, and here you can easily get a decent Airbnb room for the same price as a hostel bed. In the far end of Copa(cabana), you have Leme. This is a slightly better (and more tranquil) area than central Copacabana (which is dirtier and busier). On the other hand, at the far end of Ipanema, you find Leblon beach. This is a very upmarket area, with very beautiful women when the sun is shining. Leblon has very good bars, but not really any nightclubs. I initially thought Leblon is part of Ipanema, but in reality there is a river separating Leblon from Ipanema.

Other areas include Botafogo, a residential middle-class neighborhood with a few nightclubs and bars. There is not much to see there. The positive is that it’s only a short taxi or train ride away from the beaches. I met a gringo who got robbed at gunpoint (11 pm at night) wandering alone in a quiet side-street of Botafogo. Thus stick to the well-lit main roads of Botafogo at night.

Next, Santa Teresa is a small bohemian neighborhood in the center of the city. It’s harder to reach with public transport. Lapa (close to Santa Teresa) is a dirty neighborhood, fine for walking through during the day, but pretty much like a slum at night. I spent one night partying there without drinking. When I got home that night I puked my guts out. It may be due to the meat being off in the Burrito I ate (or the super-strong chili sauce). Otherwise, it’s because what I saw disturbed me.

Gavea is next to Ipanema and Leblon, but further away from the beach. There are a few sit-down bars and restaurants. But there’s not really any incentive to rent a room there, instead of closer to the beach.

Rio de Janeiro Women

Rio is a relaxed and laid back city. You can never over-generalize but as in any city –  some women will be more open to your cold approaches than others. Along with the more laid-back cool girls, there will also be a few bitchy girls mistaking you for a sex tourist if you try to start a friendly conversation.

The local Rio girls call themselves Cariocas. The origins has something to do with the local Tupi tribe and the Carioca river flowing through Rio.

Women are proportionally more indigenous looking in Rio than in the cities of Southern Brazil, e.g. Curitiba. Especially in the neighborhoods like Lapa / Centro (downtown Rio). On the other hand, in Leblon, Ipanema and surrounding neighborhoods you’ll walk into more European looking girls. Copacabana girls are somewhere in-between Ipanema and Downtown, on the looks scale.

Women in Rio tend to be in shape. They love to go to the beach and show off their hot bodies with thongs. Apart from a bit of cellulite here and there, I haven’t noticed many overweight girls. From a single man’s viewpoint, this is nice.

Since so much revolves around the beach-life in Rio, women who aren’t in shape will leave this city to go live inland instead (in cities like Belo Horizonte). In those places, overweight girls are less likely to feel shame due to not being in good shape.

A guy I met while traveling elsewhere told me that the women in Rio are the “hunters” in seduction… hunting for men. This is true for a lot of the poor girls who live in the slums. If you want to date girls from the favelas, go for it. They are forward sexually. They’ll bring up chilling with a movie at home, and you’re then supposed to take the bait… BUT, these are not the hottest girls in Rio. For the hot girls, you still need game. And a little Portuguese will help as well.

However, I’d say your best bet in Rio is gaming tourist girls. They’re attractive, there to party, and there is no language barrier. But this strategy only works in tourist season. During the off-season, you have to bring your best game if you want to go for the educated, more well-off, good-looking local girls.

Keep an open mind with the girls you meet in Rio. It’s a cosmopolitan city with so many different types of women. On a date, a local Rio girl may behave differently than e.g. an European girl. For example, she could be shy and seem like she isn’t showing much interest in you. But at the same time, in her mind, she’s having thoughts like “This guy is damn hot, I hope he’ll kiss me soon”. Thus, as always make the move and go for the kiss on the first date. Then take her home if there’s mutual interest. First date hookups is very normal in Rio.

Two Types of Single Female Tourists

If you are after tourist girls, know that there are two types of single female tourists in Rio. Firstly, there’s the girls who are sincere, with whom you’ll share a great time, and probably hook-up with.

Then, secondly, you’ll find tourist girls who may use you …for other reasons. For example, she’s heard that hiking alone can be dangerous, and needs a companion. Or she keeps you around as a kind of “bodyguard” (for obvious reasons – it’s a third world city). Know that with these girls it’s not likely to go anywhere sexually.

Solution: Either be satisfied only being her temporary male “companion”. Or otherwise, treat everything like a date (including making your moves), and see if she sticks around and reciprocates your interest.

Daygame in Rio

It’s a great idea to walk from the far end of Ipanema (Leblon Beach) to the far end of Copacabana (Leme) for sightseeing and meeting cute girls. In addition, Urca is a very picturesque and safe area to explore by day, with a little bit of female and natural beauty as well. After your “scenic” walks next to the beach, you can catch the underground train back to wherever you live.

The best central shopping mall is Shopping Rio Sul, close to Copacabana. You could meet one or two girls there sporadically. This is next to Botafogo neighborhood, which doesn’t have much going on in the daytime. However, you’ll usually notice one or two girls that look approachable, in this mostly residential area.

Next, go to Lapa and Santa Teresa for a couple of hours of daytime sightseeing. You could, for example, visit the famous photo spot, and stairway, covered with mosaic tiles: Escadaria Selarón.

Otherwise, simply walking in the streets of Copacabana neighborhood, there are always one or two cute girls passing by. But is “one or two” enough to make it worthwhile? At times you can walk far without scouting any talent.

Ipanema neighborhood is much better for daygame. Walking in the streets, you’ll notice that the girls are a notch above Copacabana. Also check out Shopping Leblon, a large mall close to Jardim de Alah Metro station in Ipanema. It’s decent by Rio’s low standards of daygame. However, Rio has good beach game. This is my favorite form of game in this city.

Beachgame

For beach game, Ipanema is very good. This beach (“praia” in Portuguese) is much more upmarket than at Copacabana. I especially recommend Leblon beach.

Girls often tan in groups. Work on introducing yourself to groups of people, and do more social circle game. Check out the Couchsurfing community beach meetup, or go to the beach with friends from your hostel. It also helps to fit in during beachgame. I prefer beachgame when I’m dressed for the beach – in my swimwear, and I get better results this way. The girls are chilling there in their thongs. So the least you can do is to at least try to fit in with your environment.

During the latter half of April 2018, I noticed that you can theoretically do beachgame every day. The downside is that during the week, the attractive girls were few and far between. From May, I experienced the weather getting more cloudy on some days and thus the beach was even emptier. During my following visit in February 2019, beachgame was higher quality than back in April/May 2018. Being Summer, the city felt more vibrant and sexy, right before Carnival starts around 1 March 2019. I could feel the anticipation.

Another recent observation is that during the weekends in Summer, local Brazilians come from Rio’s suburbs to Copa and Ipanema’s beaches. Thus, there is some spill-over from Copacabana onto Ipanema. This is because Copacabana’s beach on its own can’t accommodate all the locals. At the same time, during the week, there is a spill-over of hot tourist girls from Ipanema to Copacabana. This is because Copacabana is less congested during the week, thus also safer and more laid back. Thus tourists can catch some sun close to their hotel rooms in Copa. I especially noted this on the side of Copa next to Ipanema and the Arpoador.

When Ipanema beach gets too congested on weekends during tourist season, you could also take the metro train to Barra da Tijuca. Check out the beach over there, because it’s decently upmarket.

Since Rio has tropical weather, there are a few warm but rainy days in February. During these days, the beaches are basically empty.

It’s worth noting that there are different types of beaches for beach game:

  1. Family beaches
  2. Beaches with young party girls on holidays
  3. Beaches with many groups of friend circles
  4. Upmarket high-quality beaches

Copacabana is mostly like (1) and (3) above. While Ipanema (specifically Leblon) is (4). During high season (Summer), you’ll experience more of (2) in all of Rio’s Beaches.

Rio de Janeiro Nightlife

Rio’s nightlife is disappointing, and everything is far apart.

Lapa

As I mentioned above, Lapa is a slum, especially at night. Women are less attractive and I wouldn’t even bother partying there unless you wanna lower your standards significantly. Of course, there are always exceptions and here and there you’ll find a cutie.

In February 2019, I decided to give Lapa a second chance. According to my hostel receptionist, “everyone goes to Lapa on a Friday night”. But apart from noticing one or two more cute tourists (since February is still Summer season), my view of Lapa hasn’t changed at all. It’s still a dirty, sketchy slum at night. Why would attractive women go there anyway if it’s such a poor, unsafe neighborhood? Most stay away. My hostel recommended Leviano bar, but it’s as uninteresting as all the other bars in Lapa.

Copacabana

Copacabana’s nightlife isn’t great either. There are a few bars with outdoor seating, and especially many guys standing around and drinking, but for meeting girls, I’d pass on. There’s a club called Fosfobox which only gets busy after midnight, but the women coming in and out of the club weren’t that hot. So I didn’t feel like paying to go inside.

New Mariuzinn Copacabana is another clubbing option. I went inside on a quiet night, and it seems like it has a decent floor area. Still, entry fees are expensive (around R$50, or more, if you’re not on the guestlist). It’ll be mostly local girls partying there.

Lastly, I was surprised when a normal sit-down bar in Copa added a cover charge to the bill for both me and my date (on a Saturday night). The waiter doesn’t tell you beforehand, so it’s best to ask before you sit down.

Botafogo

Botafogo has some bars where a lot of people sit down and drink, with a few guys standing around. I noticed about 3 to 4 guys around every girl standing. The gender ratio was bad …it wasn’t a good environment for gaming. Only potentially for Pre-game. This was in Rua Voluntarios da Patria (street building numbers: 1 to +-40).

Next, I checked out Bukowski bar in Botafogo. The girl standing behind me in the line offered to put me on her “guestlist”, which meant I only had to pay about 30 Reals entrance fee. BUT it was a MILF bar… The average age seemed quite high. There was only a handful of attractive younger girls, other than the older single women. If you want a cougar, go there.

The only other club I’ve heard anything half-good about in Botafogo is Casa da Matriz. It seemed like a small expensive club and I didn’t check it out in 2018. However, in 2019, I decided to pay the entrance fee. My fears were realized when I saw that it was in fact simply a small expensive club without much on offer. In the line in front, I could already see that it was only a slightly higher quality crowd than Fosfobox in Copacabana. Since there are very few “upmarket” options in Rio, I went inside anyway. The crowd was below 25 years old and not really my type as far as looks goes. Plus, it was too dark, noisy and congested in the 2 or 3 small dance rooms.

On Tuesdays, there is a Mundo Lingo language exchange meetup at the Jungle Garden Pub in Botafogo. Arrive between 7pm and 8pm. This is usually a good way to meet a few cute female travelers. However, the Rio de Janeiro Mundo Lingo was mediocre and not that well-attended.

Ipanema

Ipanema Beach Hostel had a good small party on a Saturday night (May 2018). Too bad its such a small club though, because the quality of women was good. It had free entry and the girls were full of energy and dancing, not only sitting around. I checked this Hostel bar out again recently on a Friday night (Feb 2019), but this time around it was almost empty, except for 8 to 10 hostel guests standing around in the bar area. Moreover, I recently stayed in this hostel for one night, but dorms are extremely cramped. Thus, I don’t recommend staying there.

I briefly went in and out of Shenanigan’s bar in Ipa, but it was empty on a Saturday night.  Otherwise, like Copa, Ipanema has a few more bars with people sitting outside, and once again, mostly guys standing around. It wasn’t good. Woods Bar used to be a decent upmarket club option in Ipanema, but it permanently closed down.

There’s an outside standing drinking area in Leblon at night, with bars such as “Jobi” and “Boteco Boa Praca”. But it’s mostly social circles.

Barra da Tijuca

If you take the metro to the last station, Jardim Oceanico, you end up at Barra da Tijuca. A local friend pointed out two bars there, All In, and Vitrinni.

All In had a long line in front at around 11h45pm on a Friday night. But the girls weren’t hot. However, they looked more educated and upper class than in Lapa.

Vitrinni had a handful of attractive chicks sitting on the patio but otherwise seemed quite empty. Since the entrance fee was R$80, it’s no surprise that it looked half-empty. Instead of wasting money, I walked back to the metro and caught the last train before midnight to Ipanema. The metro train to Barra da Tijuca is fast as a breeze, and very cheap at R$5 one way. The 99taxi would’ve been R$45 and much slower.

Furthermore, there are Favela parties in Rio, but I haven’t heard anything good about these. It’s mostly attended by guys, and not in a pleasant environment. Kinda like the environment of Lapa.

Gavea

This neighborhood, more or less at the top of Leblon, has some bars with people standing and drinking outside on busy nights. There’s also the Gavea Jockey club area for some clubbing. It was so-so last time I visited, and it didn’t seem that great for tourists.

Rio Nightlife Conclusion

So in concluding this nightgame section, I’d say – compared to other cities, what a disappointment. And I’m not the only guy who would say this. I discussed with other male travelers and our conclusion was that Rio should be visited during the peak tourist season from December to February. Otherwise, you’re left with less attractive women, small parties, nightlife spread very thin and clubs far apart.

Unfortunately, after spending more time partying in Rio during February 2019, I can’t even recommend Rio’s nightlife in the Summer. It’s exactly the same as in Winter. Equally bad. Low-quality clubs, low-quality bars, low-quality women going to these places. Rather go to bed early and do beachgame the next day instead.

Online game

With great beaches in Rio, and awesome natural scenery and outdoor activities, I don’t want to encourage online game too much. But then again, since the clubbing is really low quality, you may as well swipe on a dating app. Now in 2021, with the ongoing scamdemic, dating apps are even more popular than usual.

Rio de Janeiro is a huge city with 6 million inhabitants. This is usually a good sign for online dating. But Rio girls are so used to tourists already, thus you don’t really have that much exotic value. Still, I assure you that you can have online success here if you make an effort. Sao Paulo is another Brazilian city that’s good for online dating. But if you speak no Portuguese, then you’ll find Rio easier. In general, Rio de Janeiro girls have impressive English levels compared to the rest of Brazil. When I went to the North-East of Brazil in 2021 (e.g. Maceio, Salvador and Natal), I was forced to take out my language lesson book to improve my Portuguese. But in Rio, I get along fine with English everywhere.

Quality of girls on Tinder are very high, especially during the Summer, IF you swipe close to Ipanema. However, if you swipe in central Rio, around Lapa, quality will be lower. If you’re from a more conservative country, you’ll be surprised the amount of skin women show on dating apps in Rio (by wearing thongs in dating photos). But you get used to it in a week or so.

Take the opportunity in Rio to take a few fresh social and dating photos, to create an attractive profile.

Rio de Janeiro Dating Apps

Apart from Tinder, Happn is also a very active app in Rio. With Happn you have the opportunity to match with girls whom you crossed paths with in real life (e.g. when you walked past her on a busy street). Bumble is the third best dating app choice in Rio, but has much fewer girls to swipe than Tinder and Happn.

Also check out VictoriaMilan for a more old-school web-based dating app where it’s not only about your photos. Most of the hottest Rio upmarket girls on Tinder don’t love dating tourists. Because you’re only passing through the city for a few days or a week. Thus, it’s worth checking out the kinky, open-minded girls on alternative apps like VictoriaMilan (click here for a free profile) instead. Meet a few Gringo-loving girls on there – its active in Rio and Sao Paulo.

Wingmen in Rio

I tried a few unconventional methods at first to find seduction groups in Rio. For example, I did an online search for something like “PUA WhatsApp Groups Rio de Janeiro / Brazil”. In this way, I found a large PUA (Portuguese-speaking) theory Rio WhatsApp group (100+ members). However, on a Friday night, they were only talking about game theory. This is not good for any PUA Whatsapp group. Number one rule on a Friday night is to go out and game.

During my second visit to Rio, I found another active Portuguese-language PUA WhatsApp group. But you’re going to have to make an effort to meet up with wings from these groups. The problem is that Rio’s a very large city. Thus you may wanna party in the South Zone of Rio (“Zona Sul”, e.g. Copacabana and Ipanema), while the wing wants to party with the locals at Lapa, or in another distant suburb of Rio (which may or may not be safe).

In addition, hostels are good for finding wingmen. Otherwise, attend one of the many Couchsurfing meetups and definitely join the Couchsurfing Whatsapp Party group. A negative about this group is that they often meet and party in Lapa. Lastly, there’s another separate Couchsurfing Whatsapp hiking group, but they speak a lot of Portuguese.

Basic Portuguese Direct compliments

Try these lines out, I got some of these from my Portuguese teacher. (“Você é” translates to “you are”)

Você é uma gata

Cool flirting line. Directly translated as “you are a cat”, but indirectly means: You are hot. It’s not an offensive way of flirting.

Você é sexy

Straightforward and direct, like in English.

Você é linda

You are beautiful.

Você é gostosa

This has strong sexual connotations. It’s potentially offensive …but at the same time, a spicier and dirtier way of saying “you are hot”. Kinda like saying “you are tasty / delicious”. Use at own risk.

Você é fofa

“You are cute” – But it is used more for cute children, or in the context of friendship. Not for flirting.

You can use these lines for both direct-game cold approach and texting. Buy Magnetic Messaging for a few more general texting ideas. Or check out Dirty Portuguese on Amazon to learn fun phrases in the local lingo.

Rio de Janeiro Dating

You could take a girl almost anywhere on a first date. However, it’s obviously smarter to take her somewhere close to where you stay, so that you can go home together afterwards. Thus, my strategy is usually to look on the Maps app which bars are close to my accommodation. Then, I go check these bars out to see if they look nice and upmarket. So, your date location should depend on your neighborhood. Nevertheless, here are a few suggestions for quality first date locations:

  • Boteco Belmonte is a popular bar with locals, and generally also a nice location for the first date. They have around 8 branches in the city. They’re usually located in the nightlife spots of each neighborhood. Thus, Belmonte is surrounded with other great bars for dates as well.
  • This includes bars like Boteco de Garrafa (Translation: Bottle Bar) in Copacabana, with its pleasant relaxed atmosphere for first dates.
  • Thirdly, I recommend the Copacabana and Ipanema promenade beach bars. There are plenty of these as you walk on the promenade. Drinking Caipirinhas at the beach, is a very authentic “Rio de Janeiro” date idea.
  • Hotel Pestana Rio Atlântica has a bar on the top floor with a great view of Copacabana. Simply take the lift to the top floor.
  • Hotel Arpoador has a nice restaurant on the bottom floor, with an upmarket romantic vibe. If you get the best seats, it’s right next to the Arpoador promenade.
  • Pavao Azul Bar in Copacabana is not that upmarket, but it’s a decent relaxed place for a first date. It’s one of the more famous bars in Copa. Thus, the seats can get crowded on busy nights.
  • The Maze: Famous Jazz bar with great Panorama views. It’s a bit far out, in central Rio (Catete), thus make sure it’s open for business before heading there. After reading about this place in a famous publication, I drove there myself in 2021 with a rented car. It’s a poor slum area. Avoid. Luckily I drove there during the daytime, thus didn’t get robbed.
  • Restaurante Brou: Instead of Maze, rather check out Brou bar/restaurant in Flamenco. You may be surprised how pleasant some bars at Flamenco can be at night, despite being very close to the dirty downtown area of Rio.
  • Mar Ipanema Hotel (Bar / Restaurant): Chilled upmarket central Ipanema bar with good ambiance for a first date, and outdoor seating.

I’ll gradually add more suggestions here. I don’t simply post random bars which I haven’t been to myself. But feel free to post more suggestions in the comment section.

A scam to be careful of

I took a girl on a date to MAB’s in Copacabana and the date went very well. But otherwise, be careful: this place is a prostitute nest. When you go sit at this bar, prostitutes will start flirting with you and invite you to join their table. Next, they order drinks, and if you don’t take them home, they’ll leave you with a huge drinks bill. On the brighter side, both the drinks and the view of Copa Beach was nice though.

Rio Tourist Attractions

The only attractions that are “unmissable” in Rio are Copacabana beach, Ipanema beach, and the Corcovado. Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain) offers a great view of the city, as does the Corcovado (Christ Statue). But it doesn’t offer much more than the great view. It is reached with 2 cable cars, first cable car goes to an intermediate mountain, the second goes to Pão de Açúcar. The cost is 80 Reals, but if you bring your student card (if you have one), you’ll only pay 40 Reals.

I also recommend renting a bicycle e.g. at FietsRio for R$10 Per Hour. This is a great way to discover the South Zone of the city.

Rio de Janeiro Carnival

Everyone who’s ever been to Carnival will tell you stories about raunchy sex, nudity and wild parties. However, hotel prices soar during carnival. That is if it’s even possible to find accommodation unless you book long beforehand. I went to Carnival in 2019. It was good fun and much better than visiting Rio in the off-season.

Carnival dates for 2019 were Friday 1 March to Saturday 9 March. Upto right before Carnival, you could still get a hostel bed for around $75 per night. The parties already start a few weeks before the official date of 1 March. These parties are called “blocos”.

At each bloco, there is usually a Samba-music band, a theme for the day, plenty of alcohol, and a crowd dressed more or less according to the theme. Some blocos get so congested you can barely walk around. Download an app to find out which blocos are scheduled for each day. The app I installed is “CarnaBlocos” – quite decent.

I attended Carnival in Both Rio and Belo Horizonte during Feb/March 2019, and posted a podcast about the experience. In 2021, Carnival was cancelled due to the fake virus scamdemic. Update: The podcast (or the transcript) is now only available in my Brazil E-book on Amazon.

Rio de Janeiro Accommodation

For accommodation, hostels may the best option in the off-season to ensure you meet a few cute foreign girls who also want to party. For better logistics, you can stay in an Airbnb (best option for Summer and high-season). Ipanema is very expensive for finding a private apartment. But there are plenty of cool cheaper Airbnb options everywhere in Copacabana.

Moreover, I like the area right in-between Copa and Ipanema. You get the best of both worlds if your walking distance from both beaches, plus you’re close to the Arpoador stone viewing point – another tourist attraction. Hoshtel is a well-run hostel in this area. Although they do provide you info about parties (such as recommending Lapa on a Friday night), it’s unfortunately not a party hostel. Otherwise, it’s a comfortable place to stay (no kitchen though). It’s situated right next to the General Osorio Metro train station.

I’ve also stayed in Aquarela do Leme. It’s a hostel that has great features like privacy curtains, and built-in comfortable pod-like beds. Thus you could have sex in your dorm (if you’re quiet). Still, outside visitors won’t be allowed, thus this only applies to potentially picking up female hostel guests. It’s situated in a safe pacified favela at the edge of Copacabana. They do attract a lot of cute girls, but take note: it’s not a party hostel.

Lastly, if you don’t mind the extremely cramped dormitories, try the party hostel previously mentioned: Ipanema Beach Hostel.

Rio de Janeiro Transport

To get around, you can use the underground metro, as long as you avoid the dangerous favela areas. Not all favelas are dangerous. The pacified favelas are decently safe.

At night, I traveled by train from Ipanema to Lapa, without any problems. But I took a 99 Taxi after midnight (when the metro closes) to return to Ipa. This ride-sharing app is quite useful in Brazil, and it’s cheaper than regular taxis.

Long distance buses leave and arrive in the city at the Novo Rio bus station. There are two airports in Rio. The domestic airport, Santos Dumont is great, since it’s close to the Zona Sul. On the other hand, RIOGaleão International Airport is further out, and will cost more money to reach if you take the taxi.

Conclusion

Would I recommend Rio de Janeiro for Seduction? Like everyone else, I love the beaches, and the mountains, plus the unique scenery. For this alone, it is worth visiting for a couple of days, any time in the year. But it’s not enough reason to want to live in Rio for a long time, especially not for seduction. Before 2020, it was quite an expensive city. In 2021 the prices came down a lot due to the tourism decrease, as well as Brazil’s currency devaluation. Still, in the off-season, there are much better cities around for aspiring seducers.

Then again, carnival and high season is definitely a much better experience (for daygame and beachgame). You’re more likely to meet high-quality girls during this time. Especially by going to the beaches, and out in nature, instead of wasting time clubbing in places like Lapa.

Furthermore, during the current 2021 scamdemic, you’re also more likely to have fun dates online. Because due to the nightlife closures, there are much more women than usual creating online dating profiles.

  1. Nice tips, lots of guys think this is a super easy city but that really isn’t the case. It is easy as far as flirting goes, but actually closing the deal takes some real effort.

  2. I am from Brazil, if you like to pick up hot girls, you should come to Sao Paulo, there are too much hot girls and they love foreign guys. It is safer and less expensive than Rio, you should try, but be careful with the region Augusta, it is a cool spot but there are too many gays

    • Yes, I’ve been to Sao Paulo. I also didn’t like the nightlife around Rua Augusta. Because the gender ratio wasn’t good, and the girls weren’t that hot. Vila Madalena is much better. I did well in online game in Sao Paulo. If I go there again, I’ll write a city guide.

  3. Seems like all the best party hostels are in Lapa/Centro which you allude to as being pretty much a slum… is there any good party hostels in better areas?!
    Thanks!

    • On the booking apps you can usually more or less derive if its a party hostel or not, by reading the reviews & description, etc.

There are definitely party hostels in other hoods as well.

      E.g. Ipanema Beach hostel.

Selina Copacabana looks fun as well, but I haven’t been inside.

I prefer apartments for privacy in Rio.

Look for party hostels on the accommodation apps – you don’t need to be in Lapa. The metro train is great for getting to Lapa from Ipanema or Copa. However you should be streetwise, train is more risky especially if you’re thin & scrawny. Gym 1+ per week recommended for Rio.
