The Nice Guy’s Guide To Meeting Women in Tunis (Tunisia)

Tunis, capital of Tunisia, is located at the northernmost tip of Africa. Its an overnight ferry ride across the Mediterranean sea from Palermo (Italy). Plus, also close to Malta. Tunisia is a secular Muslim country, thus Tunisians can make their own choices (more or less). However, the local religious beliefs still make logistics much more difficult than Europe.

It can feel somewhat daunting setting foot in North Africa for the first time. But Nomad Hostel reassured that its reasonably safe to walk outside in central Tunis up to midnight if you keep basic safety precautions in mind. However, after midnight, use Bolt taxi instead.

Tunisian Women

Tunisian women are more Arabic rather than African. North Africa was conquered by Arabs long ago. Romans and the French also governed at some point, leading to further European genes seeping into the local population.

Tunisian chicks’ hair is dark-colored (mostly black), and they’ve got Mediterranean light-brown skin tone. French and Arabic are the official languages, but English is also widely understood amongst the educated Tunis girls.

I’ve heard the argument that Tunisian women stay virgin until marriage. As if its a question of honor. However, asking around on Tinder, it seems normal if an unmarried couple have sex. Sexual morality will depend on the specific girl. Locals claim they’re free to make their own sexual choices. Even if you’re a homosexual, they’re not gonna stone you to death. It’s not Iran or Afghanistan.

Quality Of Tunis Women

By African Standards quality of women is decent. Of course, its not even close to European standards. But since I’m from South Africa, I find Tunisian Mediterranean light-brown girls more appealing than the majority of South African women. Thus, previously I had a different list of top hottest girls in Africa. Due to never having visited North Africa.

Previously I’d say:

would be candidates for hottest women in Africa, due to the cute white minorities in these countries.

But now I’ll consider adding Arabic North-African countries to Africa’s top 10 including:

  • Morocco
  • Algeria
  • Tunisia
  • Egypt

Although I’ve only been to Tunisia out of these.

The Bosnian Guy’s Comments

I spoke to a Bosnian guy at Nomad hostel. Upfront I thought he may be a dangerous psycho, since I still had some North African fear. But after chatting I realized he’s simply a normal backpacker.

He mentioned that in Bosnia the Muslim women can have premarital sex, but not in Tunisia. At least not as easily. Compared to Bosnia he doesn’t find the women as hot. But I’m comparing Tunisia to the rest of Africa, which is why I say its decent. However the Bosnian guy, comparing it to Europe, at least agrees with me that there’s a few Tunisian princesses sporadically. However, of course Bosnia is better than Tunisia.

I don’t agree with him about the extreme sexual conservatism and virginity. Tunisian women often do want to have sex. But if they stay with their parents, then they’re simply equally logistically constrained as you.

I won’t accept any limiting beliefs. The women who are into you will have fun with you, although not necessarily on the first date. The bigger problem is logistics. Try to get a hotel where you can simply walk past reception without issues, otherwise you need a private Airbnb apartment. This may be expensive in high season. To justify the cost, there shouldn’t be draconian building security.

Logistical Problems

Tunisian women often live with their family. In the West this is usually the case up-to around 18. But in Tunisia unmarried women (and men) can stay with the parents until they’re married. This further compounds the logistics problems, as the women’s logistics is not even an option when she’s living with parents.

Many hotels don’t allow you to bring Tunisian girls over. You have to show a marriage contract. It could be that some of the more expensive 5 star hotels will give you less shit about who you bring to your room. Money talks, as they say. But I can’t confirm.

Anyway, for a hotel to ask for a marriage contract is extreme. Apparently they don’t mind if you bring a girl of any other nationality to your room. They’re only protective of the virginity of specifically Tunisian women. If she’s e.g. Moroccan, then off you go to the room with her, they don’t care.

Virginity is a nice-to-have for the future husband – if he finds a virgin to marry. But its not nice for the virgin, if she never finds this elusive future husband.

Tunis Daygame

There’s a small amount of daygame dispersed throughout the city. For example, try

  • Sidi Bou Said: One of the main tourist attractions in Tunis. It’s a colorful village where houses are all blue and white. The market stalls along the pedestrian road sells Tunisian decor items – stuff that appeals especially to women.
  • La Marsa: This is an upscale area for wealthier Tunisians. The beachside promenade and the beach is really pleasant for a stroll.
  • Centre-ville: The center of the city. It doesn’t look too 3rd world in the heart of the city. But it also doesn’t exactly look 1st world. Here and there is an attractive girl walking, who you can try to approach. But its not common.
  • The Medina: This is the touristic market in the heart of Tunis. Its an important tourist attraction. Tourist girls mostly walk in pairs of two, or in larger groups with families or male friends. But you could still approach. Simply be friendly and social and not physically threatening, which would not be smart. Walking in the Medina and surrounding area feels like an Indiana Jones movie.
  • Cartage ruins. I didn’t bother going there, but it’s some old Roman ruins in Tunis.
  • The Beaches: There’s potential for a few sets on sunny days. I only met foreign girls on the beach. Still be respectable in your approach to avoid ruining it for other dudes.

There’s only a few girls with face veils, and very few real full black Burkhas in Tunis – maybe 1% max.

Tunisia Online dating

Tinder is active. There are some prostitutes on tinder who ask for money. Yet in their profiles it says nothing about prostitution, probably because its illegal. They’ll text: “Pay me 200 euro to come to your apartment”. I don’t pay, so I simply unmatch. However, it would be interesting if you go along with this. She probably won’t look like the pics at all, and I won’t be surprised if you get robbed.

The longer you swipe, and build up matches and connections, the bigger chance of success. Staying a full week will give better chance to get a flag, than simply coming 3 days then leaving again. The other problem to deal with, before even arriving in the country, is to find a hotel or Airbnb that appears like they won’t be super strict with the guest policy.

Bumble is also active in Tunis. A 3rd app to consider is Happn. Its a French app, and Tunis is a French Arabic city. Thus, it’ll probably be active. Happn’s drawback is its the perfect stalker app. Basically pinpoints your exact location to those you cross paths with.

I no longer want to promote the shit African Niche dating apps, as 99.9% of Africans don’t spend money online, anyway. But for the European and American guys reading this, check out Victoriamilan as a desktop alternative to dating and mating in the West.

Tunis Transport

Bolt App is the number one app for transport. It’s decently cheap to get around. Although the center downtown of Tunis is quite a drive to the coast at La Marsa.

Avoid the airport white taxis. They’re massive scammers, as they charge foreigners 4 or 5x the yellow taxi rate. They charge whatever they can get away with. When I arrived at the small airport, my Bolt app wasn’t yet functional. So I overpaid a white taxi simply to get to the hostel. After you overpay them, they drive detours to try and justify the inflated taxi rate. This way they make the route seem longer than it really is.

The white taxis block your way before you can walk to the yellow taxis. But simply walk past these white taxi scammers, and grab a yellow taxi. Make sure they put the taxi meter on. And that its an official taxi – not a random car.

Yellow taxis also operate on Bolt App. Bolt drivers were honest and didn’t give me any problems.

Nightlife in Tunis

In Downtown Tunis, there’s men-only bars or coffee shops, where they don’t want women. But there’s also seated hangout spots for women who usually go with boyfriends. Downtown doesn’t seem like a good nightlife spot.

There’s a popular nightlife area close to La Marsa, called Gammarth. It feels like a very safe area. For some reason all the alcohol-selling bars and nightclubs were shifted to this small stroke of land away from all the other regular businesses of Tunis. Gammarth is the most expensive area of Tunis – for food, accommodation and drinks. While La Marsa had cheaper options for everything.

So basically, only the wealthy Tunisians have access to the Western-type nightlife here in Gammarth.

Reading the local reviews, be careful with scams where they over-charge you for drinks. Plus, there seems to be some face control as well. To read these reviews, and see the different clubs and bars in this area, use the google maps app. Type e.g. “nightclub la gammarth” while scrolling over that area on the map. Now most of the clubs will show up on the map. Next, to see dress codes, face control, scams and other policies, click on a specific club and read the reviews, starting with the latest ones.

La Gammarth isn’t the best place to go rolling solo. People mostly go out in groups of 2 or more, then start mingling gradually. So you may get bored if you’re out alone, waiting for things to loosen up in the bar. Going out late may help, when the dance floors are already buzzing. Or head out earlier with a buddy or wing from e.g. the hostel.

Other Info

In Tunis there’s cheap Shawarma to eat and massive Shawarma Plates. But this isn’t as healthy. For the healthier food, the restaurants can be pricier – but still definitely not unaffordable.

Oxygene gym had a day pass for 20 dinar. They’re spacious. On the other hand, California gym had two branches where day pass is 30 dinar and 35 dinar, yet they seemed really more cramped than Oxygene.

Outside of Tunis, the smaller Tunisian towns are cheaper with regards to both food and accommodation e.g. Sfax or Sousse. However, I didn’t bother visiting these towns as I didn’t love Tunis enough, and had a hard time finding healthy nutritious food in Tunis. I neither hated Tunis, it’s simply meh.

The majority of Muslims in Tunisia are tolerant. However, the dark side of Islam is terrorism e.g. Tunis Sousse Attacks in 2015. Take note that there’s almost never any PUA coaching businesses in Muslim countries. Their men meet women in more traditional ways than in the West. This is why PUA nerds (or even Andrew Tate) doing Christian-bashing is dumb. They need a very tolerant Christian country to operate their business in.

Here’s the link to Nomad’s Hostel in Tunis. It’s in the middle between downtown Tunis and La Marsa / La Gammarth. Thus, you could spend one day in central Tunis. Then the next day, take another Bolt taxi to La Marsa side. For longer term digital nomads, I’d simply get an apartment in La Marsa instead.

Conclusion: Tunisia women

Tunis is both boring and really pleasant at the same time. Like everywhere else, it has its pros and cons. Apart from the white-car taxi-drivers at the airport, no one tried to scam me. The local businesses e.g. food joints, are generally friendly and sincere. But it’s definitely still somewhat third world. Yet North Africa and South Africa differs like light and day. North Africa (Tunisia) at least doesn’t have power cuts, but South Africa does. Potentially this is thanks to the Arabic and Roman influences in Tunisia.

With regards to dating, although Tunisia is comparatively liberal compared to e.g. Qatar, Iran or Saudi Arabia, its still Islam. But as long as you keep a bit of respect for the local customs and culture, having a good time is certainly possible.
