The Nice Guy’s Guide to Meeting Bolivian Women (La Paz and Sucre)

Bolivia is not traditionally known as a destination where you would go to meet women. The seduction scene is similar to the climate – mostly dry, but here and there you’ll find rain and some potential.

Meeting Girls in La Paz (Bolivia)

Loki Hostel in La Paz City Centre has a small bar on the top floor. Apart from the scenic view of the city, it’s not as good as Loki Lima‘s bar. The small crowd consisted of almost only Loki guests. Unlike Loki Lima, Loki La Paz is not in the city’s best neighborhood. Plus, the bar area lacks a dance floor. Revellers simply sit down and drink beer until late at night. Then at around midnight on weekends, a small “dance floor” is improvised.

Wild Rover is the other party hostel in La Paz. It is closer to the cool area, Sopocachi. While Loki is closer to the ‘shithole’ area around the bus station. However, Wild Rover seemed to have very bad wifi according to the reviews, while Loki had very good wifi.

When you take the relatively short 30-minute walk, otherwise taxi, from Loki to the affluent neighborhood, Sopocachi, you’ll find a few small dance clubs in between. For example, Plan B is a decent small nightclub on the edge of Sopocachi.

Although some clubs have a high average age, the girls below 30 have the most dating potential. Guess what? The highest quality women you will find in the Sopocachi neighborhood.

Here are a few more clubs you’ll find on your Maps app: Mongo’s club, Forum, La Costilla de Adan, and Legend Club. All of these are in Sopocachi. The most important take-out from my time in La Paz is that you want to stay in Sopocachi. There is a hostel in in this neighbourhood (3600 Hostel), but they stack three beds on top of one another. Perhaps not the best place to stay then.

While you’re in La Paz, try out the Telerifico (cable car), as the views are awesome. Take the yellow and green line from Sopocachi, linger for 15 to 20 minutes on the top of the mountain, then head back down.

La Paz is notorious for not being a good daygame destination. The daygame is as much lacking as it is in Ecuador. There are very few hot women outside by day to approach. Although, quality may be slightly higher in Sopocachi neighborhood. With some luck, you may find one or two cute tourist girls in the center of the city (for example, which I managed to do while exiting the interesting Coca Museum).

For online game, Tinder was OK. Capital cities usually have a large pool of women. This increases the chance of meeting someone you’ll want to get to know better. It’s true that hot women in third world countries often don’t love to walk around outside by day. But these girls still use dating apps. Check out Latin-American Cupid as well, for a different kind of online dating experience. The girls on Lat-Am Cupid specifically would love to meet a handsome gringo like yourself.

Meeting Women in Sucre (Bolivia)

Although Santa Cruz is larger and probably a better option for game than La Paz, I went to Sucre instead of Santa Cruz. According to other travelers, Santa Cruz is simply a large city without much to offer with regards to tourism. However, there may be higher quality women than in La Paz. On the other hand, Sucre is the most scenic city in Bolivia. In addition, it’s one of the cheapest cities I have visited in South America – at least with regards to accommodation and Spanish class prices.

Sucre has more daygame potential than La Paz. Cute backpackers stroll the town here and there. While the local women are more attractive as well.

KulturBerlin Hostel is the main nightlife hangout on weekends (and its open to outsiders who aren’t guests). It’s a fun hostel to stay in, except there is no wi-fi in the rooms. Although it gets full during weekends, in the week the bar can be very quiet. Yet, on some Saturday and Friday nights, it’s the Sucre equivalent of Loki Lima’s bar. Cute young local girls go there to meet attractive foreigners. It’s not hard to pull at KulturBerlin. I left the club with a girl in under 30 minutes.

A few guys sitting at another table asked me to join them. I noticed a cutie at this table eyeballing me. She spoke very little English and didn’t care about my broken Spanish. My mindset was “I’m gonna see how quickly I can go with her outside of this club”. This only works if she’s very into you. So initially, everything goes according to plan and we leave KulturBerlin and head to my hostel. However, the hostel, Villa Oropeza, was a bad choice for accommodation. Even though I had my own bedroom, the night-manager “cock-blocked” me by not letting me bring the girl inside on a Saturday night. Next, we head to a hotel nearby (well probably 15 to 20 minutes away on foot). Here my lightning speed success turns into a night of blunders as we are refused entry into the other hotel as well because I didn’t have my passport with me. Who goes partying with their passport in their denim’s pocket? Well, apparently you should. Unfortunately, Sucre isn’t a typical large city where there’s always a hotel available somewhere. And guest policies are generally unfavorable. By now it started raining heavily so we call it a night. It didn’t help that she lived with her parents (this seemed to be almost the norm in Bolivia).

Joyride and KulturBerlin had free salsa classes every weeknight from Tuesday to Friday. Tuesday and Thursday the classes were held at Joyride at about 10 pm, Wednesday and Friday the classes were at KulturBerlin.

Cafe restaurant Florin had good food (including Lama) and a small patio inside where you could dance with friends on a weekend night and have a beer.

Stigma Lounge disco also looked like a promising nightclub option, but it only got busy very late, at more or less 1 am. Before midnight it’s empty. Apparently, Mitos is also a decent nightclub, but it’s in a more dangerous and poor neighborhood of Sucre. Thus rather take a taxi instead of walking.

In conclusion, you don’t really wanna stay in Sucre for more than two weeks, unless you are particularly resistant to small-town boredom or have a lot of time to kill. It has some of the best Spanish learning options in Latin America though.

Bolivia Smaller Towns

if you are heading to Argentina, you can stop over for a night or two at Tarija – but this place is very tiny and boring. Don’t waste your time here. On a Friday night, it was hard to find any nightlife worth mentioning, whatsoever. I stayed in KulturBerlin Tarija, but although it’s comfortable, the hostel is much quieter than in Sucre.

With regards to Uyuni, it’s a good idea to check it out if you’re heading to Chile since they take you through the salt flats to the Bolivia-Chilean border. The whole trip takes 4 days.

If you are heading to or from Peru, You’ll pass through Copacabana. This is a small beachside town. There’s not much to do other than laze around. You can take an hour-long boat trip to Isla del Sol, and even stay on the island for a few days in a hostel. But my short boat trip to this island was boring. It didn’t seem like anything special unless you want some quiet time in nature. If you’re traveling on BoliviaHop’s bus, it’s possible to pass through Copacabana and stay on the bus. Then see the town for two hours and head on to La Paz or Puno.

On the Paraguay and Brazil side of Bolivia, Santa Cruz may be worthwhile if you are heading in that direction.

Field Report: La Paz Online Dating Girl

After I matched the girl on Tinder, we met in the city center. Next, we go to a bar to have a beer. It was vacation-time in La Paz thus it was hard to find a quality bar that was open. After ending up at a Mexican restaurant, the waiter brings us our beers.

The conversation was about a lot of different topics, including politics. She explained how coca farming replaced fruit and vegetable farming around La Paz in the last couple of years. Although it’s good that coca cultivation is legal (The leaf itself is nutritious and harmless), you now cannot buy any local fruit in her city. All the fresh produce is imported from Peru. Next, she was telling me how she’s a fan of Nelson Mandela. She was sharing political views, so I decided to reciprocate my own views.

I told her that I feel South Africa is an Idiocracy1 nowadays. I explained to her that in South Africa, the smart taxpayers are emigrating, tired of their taxes being stolen. The masses in the squatter camps have unfortunately elected uneducated and corrupt leaders. I don’t wanna veer off topic too far, but my point is: Don’t be afraid to discuss politics or religion on a date with a girl. But keep it light-hearted and don’t try to force her to believe differently. It’s more real and authentic if you can give her your honest opinion about politics. Even if she hates you for dissing Nelson Mandela. When he came into power, he did not forgive, instead, he immediately made new racist apartheid laws to discriminate against white people. So she’ll respect you more for your truth. For the sake of transparency note that I’m not the one who brought up the topic of politics during the date. Instead, she did – I can think of more fun things to talk (or write) about than politics.

Anyway, so after the beer in central La Paz, we walk to my hostel’s bar (Loki). Once we are on the top floor of this ‘former hotel’, we order a second beer. The vibe is going strong. There’s good physicality and we are making jokes and flirting. But we need a place to have more privacy. Since it’s good to never be too static in one place, I tell her we should go one floor down to the smoking room. Here we cuddle and kiss. I touch her all over her clothing. But we do not have much privacy. In Loki, you’re basically forced to stay in a dorm, and I had a 4-bed dormitory reserved. So, I take her to my room.

There’s a guy lying on his bed. So we go to the bathroom. I’ve stayed in hostels with much smaller bathrooms than this one. [This part is censored] …Needless to say, we consummate.

When we get out, the roommate is no longer in the room. So we cuddle in my dorm-bed until another roommate shows up. He grabs some stuff, then leaves the room as well. Feeling a little self-conscious about the roommates leaving the room, we get dressed anyway. The girl heads back home. She was cute with Spanish and Bolivian mixed ancestry. It was a good way to start the new year. Bolivian flag done and dusted.

Apart from the cult classic movie “Idiocracy”, this is also an idea originally explored by the great philosophers, Socrates and Plato. ..back to top

    • Thus speak those who want to make race-based and racist laws against another skin color, because they’re unwilling to compete on merit. The resulting economic destruction is already clear, and the hate is deep-rooted for some reason. Flying in Cuban engineers and doctors, to fill skill shortages, while at the same time, trying to get rid of highly-skilled white engineers and doctors, who are forced to seek greener pastures.

Perhaps go live in Zimbabwe? No electricity, no job, no economy, no food. But at least you’ve got “the land”.

Pity there’s no one left who knows how to work the land.
